September Gardening: Planning for next spring

As crazy as it may seem, it is time to plan for next spring with fall around the corner. After the soil temperature drops below 60°, you should plant your spring flowering bulbs like Daffodils, Crocus, and Hyacinths.

Pro Tip: Add Bulb fertilizer or Bone meal into the planting hole

You should dig up and divide or move any overgrown perennials. You should also dig up and store tender bulbs like Dahlias in a cool, dark location after you have your first frost.

You can plant Winter Pansies and Chrysanthemums this month to give your garden a pop of color when your summer blooms wilt!

If you want a wildflower garden, then scatter the seeds in rows or open beds this month. This will ensure the seedlings will be ready for you to move next spring.
