Helpful Hints About Taking Care of Your Decorative Flags

It’s no surprise that our August blog would be about flags. If you’ve ever visited our store at MacArthur Center or opened our website at www.gardengazebo.com, you know we are in the decorative flag business.   We like to say, “We have flags for every season and every reason.”

There is more to being a collector of flags than picking your favorites from our HUGE selection.  But it is not a bad idea to take advantage of our promotions that offer an incentive to purchase multiple flags on any given day.  For instance, our generous instore offer allows you to receive a free flag when you purchase three at regular price which is a 25% discount.  Our online flag promotion offers free shipping when you purchase two or more flags at regular price.  You know what that means don’t you?  You can purchase as many flags as you’d like online, and you will not pay for shipping.

Now I want to let you know some additional information about being a flag collector/owner.  It is important to know how to display an American flag.  There is only one correct way.  See the attached link.   It will show you what you need to know.  https://binged.it/3c1LAyF

Being a flag lover/collector means you will eventually own an abundance of flags. You may only display some of them once or rarely and others will be brought out regularly at the appropriate time.  All of this means, at least some of your flags will need to be cleaned.  Here are a few helpful tips we recommend:

  • Always hand wash your flag with mild detergent and cold water
  • Thoroughly rinse with cold water
  • Machine washing will cause wear and fading. We highly recommend air drying your flag
  • Don’t keep your flag in water for an extended period for it will cause the color to run off

Speaking of owning an abundance of flags, where and how are you going to store them?  If you collect both the garden and house size flags, you will need ample space and a way to separate them into sizes and categories.  Here are several great ideas for storing your flag collection:

Boxes:  Typical shirt boxes, like the many used to pack a holiday gift, make perfect storage containers for your decorative flags. These boxes can sit flatly and can be stacked one upon the other. Plain boxes can be identified with a permanent marker noting its contents.

Hangers:  A great idea, especially if reusing flags constantly, is to place your decorative flags on a clothes-hanger like device with multiple cross bars to hold several. If you use decorative flags rotating use, a hange4r device for storing your decorative flags is an excellent choice providing ready access not available when boxing them away.

Happy Flag Shopping.  It’s time to think about Fall Decorating and before you know it Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa and New Year’s will be here!
